Dr. Wouter Vleugels is an Assistant Professor in strategic and sustainable HR management at HEC Liège, the management school of the University of Liège, in Belgium.
He obtained a PhD in Business Economics from KU Leuven, in Belgium. Wouter’s current research interests include the dynamic nature of person-environment (PE) fit, the use and misuse of PE fit as a system of assumptions and associated practices in HR management, and the causes and consequences of misfit. His work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Organizational Behavior, Academy of Management Perspectives, and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, among other outlets. In addition, Wouter also regularly reviews for several academic journals such as Applied Psychology: An International Review, International Journal of HRM, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Human Relations, and Human Resource Management Journal.
Before joining HEC Liège, Wouter held a position as Assistant Professor at Deakin Business School in Melbourne, Australia. He also has been a visiting researcher at North-West University (South Africa), Stockholm University (Sweden), Deakin Business School (Australia), VU Amsterdam (The Netherlands), and Bamberg University (Germany). Wouter’s teaching experience includes courses on various HRM-related topics such as strategic staffing, human resource development, international HRM, and strategic and sustainable HRM. His teaching is informed by relevant project-based consultancies on performance management, talent assessment, and leadership development in Europe, US, China, Singapore, and the Middle East.
